4 Easy Tips to get my braces off faster?

If you’re in braces treatment and you have an upcoming event, like a graduation or wedding, or you’re just getting antsy and ready to see your beautiful new teeth, we have tips to help you get your braces off faster!

There are ways to speed up the orthodontic treatment process by supporting healthy teeth, following your personalized treatment plan, and exploring accelerated orthodontics. It’s easier than you may think!

Here are 4 easy tips to get your braces off faster:

1. Keep your braces sparkly clean!

Make a habit out of keeping your teeth and braces clean throughout your treatment. This is one of the easiest and highest priority tips on the “how to get braces off faster” list! Commit to brushing your teeth in the morning and at night, and flossing before bed.

Once you get used to your new oral hygiene routine and you start introducing harder foods back into your diet after the first week or so of braces, up your routine by flossing throughout the day. Cleaning your teeth after meals will help remove debris and keep bacteria to a minimum, which will strengthen your teeth and gums and help them respond to orthodontic treatment.

When you keep your teeth clean, they get to their beautiful end position quicker!

2. Prioritize your orthodontist appointments.

Throughout your treatment process, try your best not to miss any of your scheduled check-in appointments with us. Check-in appointments allow your orthodontist to assess your progress, ensure that your treatment is on the right track, and make any necessary adjustments to your personalized treatment plan.

If we have to reschedule check-ins during your treatment process, this can add weeks or an additional month to your treatment plan. However, we understand that life happens! If you ever have to reschedule an appointment, please let us know and we’re more than happy to accommodate you.

3. Ask us about accelerated orthodontics!

At Spillers Orthodontics, we’re proud to offer advanced technologies, Propel® and AcceleDent™, for patients who want to speed up the treatment process!

With the Propel technique, your orthodontist creates tiny holes in the bone around your teeth, which stimulates the bone to trigger a natural inflammatory response. Cells then rush to the site to help regenerate the bone, which accelerates tooth movement drastically.

For patients who prefer a non-invasive technique, we offer AcceleDent treatment with a device that delivers tiny vibrations to the teeth to speed up the bone remodeling process and shorten treatment time.

Both Propel and AcceleDent can shorten treatment time by up to 30%! If you’re interested in getting your braces off quicker, ask us about accelerated orthodontics.

4. Try your best to minimize orthodontic emergencies.

Orthodontic emergencies, such as broken brackets and loose wires, can result from biting into foods on the no-go list, chewing on inedible items, or playing sports without a mouthguard.

Avoid food and candies that are particularly chewy, sticky or hard. There will be plenty of time for those treats after your braces are removed! Don’t chew ice or chew on pencils, or any other items that can damage your braces and send you to our office for an emergency orthodontist appointment.

If you play sports, don’t take risks! Wear a mouthguard to prevent damage to your teeth and braces. One ball or elbow to the face, or a fall to the ground can leave you with broken brackets or wires, or worse – missing teeth. Wearing a mouthguard is a simple way to speed up the braces process by avoiding unnecessary visits or changes in your treatment plan. If you or your child needs a mouthguard, please let us know at your next appointment!
