Cleaning and Maintaining Your Braces is Critical to the Alignment Process

Cleaning and maintaining your braces on a daily basis is absolutely critical to the process of realigning your teeth. If any part of your braces is damaged or you develop issues with tooth decay, it could increase the number of adjustment sessions you need to adjust properly. This will ultimately result in increasing the duration of time you need to wear braces.

Here at Spillers Orthodontics, our team recommends a few basic tools to help you clean some of the hard to reach places.

Wires can sometimes make it challenging to floss between your teeth and along the gum line. A floss threader is a simple, loop shaped tool that can insert a strand of waxed dental floss into these places.

Interdental brushes have small tapered heads to help clean food particles and plaque from hard to reach places. They are especially handy for getting small food particles out of bands and around spacers.

An oral irrigator creates a small stream of water that can help loosen and wash away food particles. While this can help clean the gum line a little bit, it cannot replace the dental floss.

If you are struggling to clean and maintain your braces, you can always call the offices of Spillers Orthodontics at 478-953-2700 to address any questions or concerns regarding your braces and treatment. We are always happy to help keep you smiling!
